History

When the British invaded, it helped to internationalize the production of rock music. It played a role in the rise of a particular genre of rock music based on the guitars and drums and artists producing their own material as singer-songwriters. Rock in the 60s included blues-rock, folk-rock, psychedelic rock, and pop rock.

The 1960s

Popular 60's Bands

​The Beatles (1962)- The most successful pop group of the 20 century- they changed popular culture forever. The Beatles were made up of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.

The Rolling Stones (1962)-  The Stones are an English rock band that was formed in London. The band was made up of Brian Jones (guitar, harmonica), Ian Stewart (piano), Mick Jagger (lead vocals, harmonica), Keith Richards (guitar), Bill Wyman (bass) and Charlie Watts (drums).

Jimi Hendrix (1963-1970)- An American rock guitarist, singer, and songwriter. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential electric guitarists in the history of popular music, and still to this day, one of the most celebrated musicians of the 20th century.
