History
The rock in the 80s introduced many new genres from glam metal to new wave. The new styles started to incorporate sounds from more obscure genres such as ska and reggae, and synthesizers became a prominent instrument in much of the music.
Popular 1980s Bands
Guns N Roses (1985)- An American hard rock band from Los Angeles. They were originally made up of vocalist Axl Rose, lead guitarist Slash, rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin, bassist Duff McKagan, and drummer Steven Adler. They were one of the world's best-selling bands of all time.
Def Leppard (1977)- An English rock band formed as a part of the new wave of British heavy metal movement. Since 1992, the band has consisted of Joe Elliott (lead vocals), Rick Savage (bassist, backing vocals), Rick Allen (drums, backing vocals), Phil Collen (guitar, backing vocals), and Vivian Campbell (guitar, backing vocals). Their fourth album Hysteria, released in August 1987 and topped the UK and U.S. album charts.
Red Hot Chili Peppers(1983)- An American funk rock band formed in Los Angeles. The bands style mostly consists of rock with an emphasis on funk, as well as elements from other genres such as punk rock and psychedelic rock. RHCP have been nominated for sixteen Grammy Awards, of which they have won six and are the most successful band in alternative rock radio history.
