The 1990s
History
The rock music of the 1990s was mostly a new genre of grunge and alternative bands and artists. The musical tastes in the 90s varied from different types of popular music such as techno, pop, rap, hip hop, grunge, and alternative rock. Songs were usually written about how the helplessness teenagers were feeling during this era.
Popular 1990s Bands
Nirvana(1987-1994)- an American rock band formed by singer and guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic in Aberdeen, Washington. Nirvana had multiple drummers from time to time, but the longest-lasting being Dave Grohl, who joined the band in 1990. Nirvana has become to be regarded as one of the most influential and important rock bands of the modern era. Though the band ended because of Cobain’s death in 1994, their music continues to maintain a popular and inspires and influences modern rock and roll culture.


Pearl Jam (1990) -An American rock band formed in Seattle, Washington. The band consists of line-up Eddie Vedder (lead vocals), Mike McCready (lead guitar), Stone Gossard (rhythm guitar) and Jeff Ament (bass). The band has sold 32 million records in the US and an estimated 60 million worldwide. Pearl Jam is considered one of the most influential bands of that decade.
Stone Temple Pilots (1985- 2002)— An American rock band from San Diego, California, that originally consisted of Scott Weiland (lead vocals), brothers Dean (guitar) and Robert DeLeo (bass, backing vocals), and Eric Kretz (drums). They were considered one of the most commercially successful bands of the 1990s.
